Appellate Practice Group

HLG’s Appellate Practice Group will evaluate the chances of success on appeal and write the briefs necessary to present the best case to the appellate court.

HLG’s Appellate Practice Group is led by Jennifer B. Ettenger and Harris J. Zakarin. The Appellate Practice Group handles appeals in both civil and criminal cases in the Federal and State courts in New York. Focusing on cases in the Appellate Divisions of the Supreme Court of the State of New York (primarily the First and Second Departments), the New York State Court of Appeals and the Federal Second Circuit Court of Appeals, HLG handles its own appeals, as well as those of other firms.

We evaluate each case from the perspective of the appellate court, by reviewing the written record. From this perspective the Appellate Practice Group is able to provide objective opinions about which facts are most beneficial, which issues were best preserved for appeal, and which avenue provides for the best chance for success on appeal.

HLG is available to assist current counsel on appeal or assume representation during the appellate process. We will evaluate the chances of success on appeal and write the briefs necessary to present the best case to the appellate court.
